Cheryl Cole to perform at V Festival

Singer Cheryl Cole, who last week announced her split from husband Ashley Cole, has been lined up to perform solo at this year’s V Festival.

The Girl’s Aloud singer is an unusual choice for the typically rock music focused festival which will be headlined by indie veteran acts Kasabian and Kings of Leon, announced today.

Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles sang her sister and brother-in-law’s praises as aunt and uncle to OK! recently, saying they’re both very good, except maybe when it comes to bedtimes!

Funeral of Alexander McQueen

Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney, Sam Taylor-Wood and Daphne Guinness were among the black-clad mourners to arrive at St Paul’s Church in Knightbridge, west London, to celebrate the life of Alexander McQueen who, his friends said, made “all he touched beautiful”.

His father Ronald was joined by his five children at the service – they are also mourning McQueen’s mother, who died at the beginning of the month.

McQueen was discovered hanged in a wardrobe at his £2 million Mayfair home by his cleaner on the eve of his mother’s funeral on February 11.

An inquest into his death was told that he left a suicide note for his loved ones, which is believed to have been found at the scene.

Friends said he had locked himself away and refused to get out of bed after his mother Joyce, to whom he was extremely close, died on February 2.

Pirelli Calendar Launch 2010

Six months after shooting the iconic calendar in Brazil, models Lily Cole, Daisy Lowe and Marloes Horst were all present at the event held at Billingsgate Market.

Kate Moss’s motto gives comfort to ‘pro-anorexic’ community

Supermodel Kate Moss, in a rare online interview this week, told readers that one of her mottos was “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”, the fallout was instant, vitriolic and damning.

Susan Ringwood, chief executive of Beat, an eating disorder charity, said Moss’s words were “potentially very dangerous” because they were strongly associated with pro-anorexia websites. “This phrase is often used as one of their 10 commandments or mantras. And it is young women between the age of 12-20 who are the most at risk from anorexia, which is unfortunately the same group that could be influenced by celebrity culture.”

$20.1 Million in One Day

The Michael Jackson concert documentary This Is It earned $20.1m (£12.1m) at worldwide box offices in its first day, the studio that made the film has said.

The movie, which is based on rehearsal footage for the star’s ill-fated comeback shows, was premiered around the world on Tuesday.

Cheryl Cole and footballer husband Ashley Cole have had a proposal for an underground swimming pool thrown out by planning officials.

The couple wanted to build the 12-by-five metre pool and “a modest gym and spa” beneath their Surrey mansion to escape the prying eyes of paparazzi and reporters.

When their original application was rejected by Guildford Borough Council on the grounds that it was “disproportionate” to the size of the house, the pair appealed – but they have now learned their appeal has been dismissed
